Winch Line Safety Weights
Winch Line Safety Weights are a safety
device placed over wire, or synthetic winch ropes, in place of
shirts, jackets or blankets. They help keep winch ropes and/or
winching hardware from becoming flying projectiles should part
of the winching system fail while being used under load.
It is recommended that some form of line weight be added to
the any winch rope when in use. It is highly recommended
that one Winch Line Safety Weight be used for every 50 feet of
line that is unspooled under tension.
Holeproof Industries Winch Line Safety Weights are made of a
high test, mildew resistant Cordura with two inch Velcro
strips across the inside to secure it to wire or
synthetic winch rope and keep it from sliding on the
line. They are loaded with approximately 5 pounds (2.5
lbs. per side) of dense material. Winch
Line Safety Weights are safety orange with a silver reflective strip on
each side and grey trim. These are made right here in Interior Alaska
by Holeproof Industries.

Disclaimer
Winch Line Safety Weights (or some
other form of line weight) should always be used in addition
to other safety measures. These weights do not guarantee
that winch rope or a piece of the winching hardware will
not become a flying projectile should part of the winching
system fail. Winch operators and bystanders should always
stay clear of the area where a broken winch rope or
winching hardware could reach if a failure occurs. These
are not intended as a substitute for common sense. Off-road
activities and winching are inherently dangerous activities.
